Tomato Pappu



Ingredients

Toor dal - 1 cup
tomatoes - 2 medium
Green chillies - 4
Turmeric powder - 1 tsp
Salt - 1 tsp

Seasoning
Oil - 1tsp
Mustard seeds - 1 tsp
Jeera - 1/2 tsp
Asfoetida - pinch
Curry leaves - 5
Red chilli - 2
Garlic flakes - 2 (optional)
Method
1. Chop the tomatoes into quarters.
2. Wash and pressure cook toor dhal with chopped tomatoes, green chillies, turmeric powder and 3 cups of water.
3. Mash the dal, green chillies & tomatoes, add salt.
4. For seasoning, heat oil, add mustard seeds, curry leaves, broken red chilli, garlic flakes, asfoetida and add it to the dal.
5. Cook on a slow flame for few minutes.
6. If the tomatoes are not sour, you can add little tamarind.
Very tasty Andhra dish, serve with hot rice and ghee with papad
